Photo Shoot in Croatia, black-and-white photos using the split toning technique

Photographs I took with the Croatian model Marizela, all in natural light, using a reflector panel to lift the shadows and create the strong contrast we were looking for. I used Lightroom to convert the raw color photos to black and white: this is the workflow I suggest to everyone. The way you can edit tones in Lightroom is much more effective than shooting directly in black and white in-camera as a JPG.

To achieve those warm tones in black-and-white photos, I used the split-toning technique: giving warm tones to the highlights and shadows lets you mimic a vintage print on warm-color paper.

The location for the photos was on the Croatian coast of Rovinj: this small colorful city has some very typical narrow streets that gave a great background for the shots.
