It is amazing what you can do photographically with a smartphone nowadays. Given that the first iPhone was introduced only eight years ago, the evolution of these devices has been phenomenal: screens have grown larger and larger, processors have become faster and faster, and interfaces and operating systems have grown richer in functionality.
Until a few years ago, Apple was almost the only player in the smartphone market, but this changed in recent years as Android smartphones grew significantly in both hardware and software. I will not open a war here over which operating system is best; I am just showing that, on the Android platform, you can also find excellent devices at great price points.
In this case, I was able to try the OnePlus One Android smartphone. The device is unique in both its hardware and software choices (it runs CyanogenMod, a highly customizable version of Android) and in its purchasing options and prices. The photos below were also shot in Raw DNG format and then developed in Lightroom.
